Convert Single Products Into Variations

Learn how to convert your single products into variations

Written by Holland Rocha

You can convert existing single products into variation products individually in Sellbrite or in bulk using a Product CSV file.

If you are not familiar with Sellbrite CSV files, we recommend downloading a sample template first. To download a sample file, go to:

Settings > Export Data > Products > Template Only. This template shows how products and variations are structured within the spreadsheet.

Before you begin

Variation products in Sellbrite use:

  • A parent product SKU

  • Child variation SKUs

  • Variation attributes and values

For example:

  • Variation attribute: Color

  • Variation values: Blue, Green, Red

The parent product acts as the main variation group, while the child products represent the individual purchasable variations.

1. Create a parent product row

Insert a new row above the single products you want to group into variations.

In the new row, add a parent SKU in the sku column. This parent row should sit above the variation products you want to group together.

Next, add that same parent SKU to the parent_sku column for each child variation product.

Only the child variation rows should contain a parent_sku value. The parent product row itself should not contain a parent_sku.

Before moving forward, make sure the parent product row also includes required product information such as:

  • Product name

  • Description

  • Price

  • Other basic product details

2. Add variation attributes and variation values

Next, you need to assign variation attributes to your products, which will tell Sellbrite what your product varies on.

Scroll to right of your spreadsheet until you reach your the 'variation_1' column.
In the new parent row that you've added, insert the product's variation attributes (size, color, etc.)

Next, you need to assign variation attributes to your products. Variation attributes tell Sellbrite what the product varies by, such as:

  • Size

  • Color

  • Material

Scroll to the right side of the spreadsheet until you reach the variation_1 column.

In the parent product row, enter the variation attribute.

Lastly, you need to add variation values for each one of your products. If the variation

Next, add the variation value for each child product row.

For example, if your variation attribute is Color, each child product should contain a variation value such as:

  • Blue

  • Green

  • Red

Make sure each variation value is entered on the correct SKU row so the proper size, color, or other variation is assigned to the correct product.

3. Re-import the CSV file

After saving your spreadsheet in .CSV format, re-import the file into Sellbrite.

Go to: Settings > Import Data > Products > CSV File. Upload the updated CSV file to apply your variation changes.
