eBay has recently introduced a couple of listing policy updates to communications, allowable links and secure content within eBay listing descriptions. These policy changes will take full effect as of October 15th, 2017. Please read through and use this article to ensure your eBay listing descriptions are updated for any of the scenarios mentioned.

Non-Permitted Links in your Description

If you have any links to off-eBay websites in your listing descriptions, you will have to remove them from your listings. You can use Sellbrite to do this for you automatically by simply re-publishing your Active listings from Sellbrite.

Or if you prefer, you can manually remove the links from your listings by going to the Title & Description tab on each of your eBay listings in Sellbrite and removing any non-permitted links.

If you use Templates on your eBay listings, simply edit the Title & Description Template and remove any non-permitted links from your Template. This will update any listings your template is already applied to. You can also apply this template to other eBay listings to update them in bulk.

Permitted Links and Other Non-Secure Content

If you have listings containing permitted links and non-secure HTTP content, such as images and CSS files, with URLs that start with http://, they must be changed to HTTPS, otherwise eBay will require buyers to click an additional button to see the full item description.

Luckily, Sellbrite can convert these links for you. You'll first need to confirm the hosting sites of any http links are secure, allowing them to work when updated to https. To then update your link types, simply republish your eBay listings individually or in bulk from the Listings page of Sellbrite, and Sellbrite will convert the URLs to https for you.

Powered by Sellbrite Footer

Sellbrite's Powered by Sellbrite badge located at the footer of your eBay listings used to use a link that is now considered non-compliant. We've updated the badge's link to comply with eBay's new policy, but your listings probably still contain the old link. To make sure the footer badge is updated, simply republish your eBay listings individually or in bulk from the Listings page of Sellbrite.

Contact Information in your Descriptions

If you have non-permitted contact information in your descriptions, you will need to remove any contact information from your listings. To remove any contact information, either go to the Title & Description section of each eBay listing in Sellbrite, if you don't use a Template, to remove any non-permitted contact information...

...or go to your Title & Description Template and remove the non-permitted contact information from your template. This will update any listings your template is already applied to, or you can apply this template to other eBay listings to update them in bulk.

Confirming your Listings are Compliant

Once you have made the necessary changes to your descriptions, you can confirm your listings are compliant by following the link you received in eBay's "View Listings with Policy Violations" message. You should see a count of zero when your listings are 100% compliant.
