eBay lets you set sales tax rates in two ways: on each individual listing, or globally using a tax table.
A single listing can only be assigned to one state (jurisdiction), so if you only collect sales tax in one state, setting it on the individual listing is enough. If you need to collect tax in multiple states, you'll need to use a tax table instead.
Setting sales tax on a listing
In Sellbrite, you can set your sales tax rate on the Edit Listing page, or save it in your Payments & Returns Template and apply that template to your draft or active listings.
Setting up a tax table
A tax table has to be created directly in eBay. To set one up:
Log in to your eBay account and go to My eBay > Account > Site Preferences.
Select Show in the Payments from Buyers section.
Select Edit in the "Use sales tax table" section.
Enter the sales tax rate for each state where you need to charge sales tax. If you're required to tax shipping and handling in a given state, check the box for "Also charge sales tax on S&H."
Select Save.
Using a tax table with Sellbrite listings
A tax table is a global preference tied to your eBay account, and any changes you make to it take effect immediately. However, those changes don't automatically apply to listings that are already active. If a listing is currently using standard sales tax settings instead of the tax table, you'll need to revise or relist it for the tax table to take over.
Once your tax table is set up, go to your eBay listing (or eBay listing preset) in Sellbrite and choose the option to charge tax according to the tax table.
What happens when you revise or relist an item
If the item originally had no tax specified: It stays without tax.
If the item originally used standard sales tax settings:
If a tax table exists for your account and site, the tax table takes over.
If no tax table exists (or it's been cleared), the standard sales tax settings stay in place.
If the item originally used a tax table:
If a tax table still exists for your account, the tax table continues to apply.
If no tax table exists (or it's been cleared), no tax is charged at all.
Exception: If an active listing already has bids, you can't change its tax details, even if you revise it.
