Prevent Overselling on Amazon by Updating Your Fulfillment Type

Learn about ghost listings, and how to avoid them.

Written by Elliot K

If you've oversold merchant-fulfilled items on Amazon and can't figure out why, a ghost listing is likely the cause.

What is a ghost listing?

A ghost listing is a duplicate listing that doesn't appear in your Amazon Seller Central, but is visible to buyers on Amazon.

Ghost listings happen when a listing was originally imported into Sellbrite as FBM (merchant-fulfilled), but was later switched to FBA directly on Amazon, outside of Sellbrite. Since that change didn't happen in Sellbrite, Sellbrite has no way of knowing about it. Sellbrite keeps pushing merchant-fulfilled inventory to a listing that Amazon has effectively replaced, which creates a duplicate "ghost" page that's invisible in your Seller Central account but still live for shoppers.

How to prevent ghost listings

To prevent ghost listings, always change a listing's fulfillment type in Sellbrite when you move inventory to an FBA warehouse. Do not make this change directly in Amazon.

How to switch the fulfillment type in Sellbrite

For a single listing:

  1. Go to the Listing Details section of the listing page.

  2. Find the Fulfilled By field and select FBA.

  3. Republish the listing.

For multiple listings at a time:

  1. In the Amazon Listings Manager, select the listings you want to update.

  2. Select Bulk Edit.

  3. Set the Fulfilled By field to FBA.

  4. Republish your listings.
