Etsy Common Errors and How to Fix Them

Learn how to avoid and correct errors you receive when connecting Etsy or creating Etsy listings.

If you run into an error while listing to Etsy in Sellbrite, find the error message below to see what's causing it and how to resolve it.

"This item is either not handmade, vintage, or a craft item."

Etsy requires that items be handmade, vintage, or a craft supply, except for items listed under a supply or craft tool category.

This error usually appears when your listing is assigned to a supply or craft tool category on Etsy, but the listing itself is marked as not being a supply or craft tool. Etsy expects you to make your items yourself, with supplies and craft tools as the only exception.

How to fix it: Check your listing's category and its "who made it" or item type setting. Make sure they're consistent. If the item is a supply or craft tool, mark it as such. If it isn't, choose a category that doesn't require that designation.

"All combinations of property values must be supplied"

This error appears when a product has two variation types, like size and color, but doesn't have a full size run for every color. For example, if your black shirt has three sizes (S, M, L) but your blue shirt only has two (S, M), Etsy rejects the inventory sync and returns this error.

How to fix it: Add the missing size or color option for every variation, even if you don't actually carry it, so each color has the same number of size options. In the example above, you'd add Size L for the blue shirt with an inventory of 0. Now both colors have three size options.

"Invalid Shipping Data"

This error appears when you're using calculated shipping profiles and your listing's package dimensions don't meet Etsy's requirements. Etsy doesn't accept weights over 70 pounds, and it requires the length to be the largest of your package's three dimensions.

How to fix it: Go to the listing's Shipping & Returns tab. Either reduce the weight to under 70 pounds, or update the length so it's the largest dimension. Then republish the listing.
