How to Use eBay Listing Templates

Learn about and how to use the various Listing Templates available for eBay.

There are 5 different Listing Templates for eBay. They allow you to save a majority of your category-based settings, to increase the efficiency of listing to eBay.

Category Template

The Category Template lets you select a category you commonly list under on eBay and save the settings for that category so you don't have to re-enter them every time.

Note: Toggle Advanced Options on to see all available setting options. By default, Sellbrite only displays the required fields.

The first section of the Category Template lets you select a primary and secondary category, along with two store categories if you manage an eBay store.

You can locate an eBay category two ways: select Search categories to search by typing a full or partial category name, or select Browse categories to open a category tree you can drill into.

Choosing a Secondary Category is optional, and the item specifics that you select later are dependent on the Primary Category.

After selecting the category, or categories, for this template, map the product conditions for that category based on the conditions in Sellbrite's catalog: New, Used, and Reconditioned.

Make sure to choose the listing format and duration for this template. If you create both auction and fixed-price listings, duplicate your template once you're finished and create a second version with the other format. You can have multiple templates per category with different durations and other settings.

One of the most useful features of this template is the ability to map your item specifics in advance. You'll see all of the available item specifics for the primary category you chose.

If the products you're listing have variations, map your variation attributes as well. This tells eBay what your products vary on.

For example, you can map the variation attribute "Color" to the item specific called "Color." You'll find your variation attributes toward the bottom of the dropdown, in the Variation Attributes section.

If you forget to map a variation attribute and try to list a variation product to eBay, you'll get a listing error saying your item specifics setup is incorrect. You'll need to go back and correct it in the template.

Any custom attributes you've created for your products appear in the dropdown under the Custom Attributes section, and you can map these to item-specific fields as well.

Title & Description Template

The Title & Description Template lets you configure the mapping for your eBay listing title, subtitle, and description.

This lets you map additional product attributes into these fields. For example, if you want to include your product's price in the listing title, select the Insert Product Tags dropdown and choose Price.

Subtitle is an optional field, and eBay may charge an additional fee for it depending on your account type. Most merchants leave this field blank, though subtitles can improve search visibility and ranking.

The Description field is the most commonly customized field for eBay listings. Sellbrite offers a few ways to customize it, depending on how much control you want:

  • You can keep a simple text field, which is the default setting, by leaving the Description tag as-is. This pulls your product description directly into the listing when the template is applied.

  • To add styling or additional product attribute information, select Basic HTML Editor to open the editor tool. It works similarly to a word processor: you can add plain text and dynamic product attribute tags, along with formatting like bold text and paragraph spacing, without needing to write code. Sellbrite converts your layout into HTML automatically.

  • If you already have an HTML template you want to use, select Source within the HTML Editor to paste in your code. You can still insert product tags into your custom code using the Insert Tags button in the top right of the editor.

Shipping Template

The Shipping Template lets you set the shipping options you offer on a selected group of listings.

A single template can include both domestic and international shipping options, along with the option to make your listings available through eBay's Global Shipping Program.

You can also use Exclude Locations to avoid shipping to certain regions due to higher cost or fraud risk.

You won't find a Weight field in your Shipping Template. Item weights are automatically pulled from your product information and applied to your listing through this template. Weights won't appear on your listings unless a Shipping Template is applied.

Payment & Returns Template

The Payment & Returns Template is the most straightforward of the five templates. It lets you store your PayPal address and payment instructions. You can also require immediate payment if needed and include sales tax.

Merchants often use multiple Payment & Returns Templates because of the Handling Time setting. If you sell made-to-order products or drop ship some of your products, you may need multiple templates to account for each product's expected handling time window.

Pricing Template

The Pricing Template lets you configure custom pricing settings for your listings, for both fixed-price and auction listings, so you don't need separate templates by listing format.

Pricing Templates include the same pricing rules available in your global Channel Settings, but give you more flexibility: a template lets you apply pricing rules to individual listings rather than every listing on the channel.

For eBay listings, you can also set Best Offer parameters to automatically accept or decline offers.
