Amazon Common Errors and How to Fix Them

Learn how to avoid and correct errors you receive when creating Amazon listings.

1. Error 5000

Full Message: "The ASIN you provided is incomplete or missing. Please provide a valid ASIN before republishing. If the product you are selling does not have an ASIN, you will need to create your listing directly in your Amazon Seller Central.

This error appears when your listing's ASIN is incomplete or missing. Without a valid ASIN, Amazon has no way to organize the listing data."

To fix: Add a complete ASIN to the listing, and republish the listing.

Note: This error can also point to fields other than ASIN, such as Condition Type. To see exactly what the error refers to, check the end of the error message. For example, "The value 'A123480' of element 'Value' is not valid" means the ASIN itself is invalid, but a similar message referencing a different field points to that field instead.

2. Error 8541

Full message: "The product information provided does match the Amazon listing information. Please check fields like 'Brand' and make sure that your information is correct."

This error appears when information in your listing conflicts with what's already in Amazon's catalog for that ASIN. For example, if Amazon's catalog lists the Brand for a product as Samsung, and you try to publish your listing with Brand set to AirLink, you'll see this error.

How to fix it: Update the conflicting field, such as Brand, to match what's already in Amazon's catalog for that ASIN, then republish the listing.

3. Error 13013

Full message: "Check your listing to make sure no required fields are missing. If everything looks good, try republishing."

This is a companion error, meaning that if you see one error (usually Error 8541), you will see Error 13013 as well. It appears because that primary error prevents Amazon from correctly matching your listing to its ASIN.

How to fix it: Resolve the primary error (usually Error 8541), then republish the listing. Once the primary issue is fixed, Error 13013 should clear as well.

4. Connection error: HTTP status code 403

This error means Amazon is not authorizing the API connection to your account. A 403 error is generally caused by one of the following:

  • Missing or insufficient API permissions

  • Issues with your Amazon Seller Partner API (SP-API) authorization

  • Account-level restrictions or compliance requirements

  • Incorrect or expired authorization tokens

Amazon doesn't provide Sellbrite with additional detail beyond the error response itself, so only Amazon Seller Support can identify the exact cause.

How to fix it: Contact Amazon Seller Support and provide them with the following error details so they can investigate the authorization failure:

Connection error: HTTP status code 403 x-amzn-ErrorType: AccessDeniedException Response body: {   "errors": [     {       "code": "Unauthorized",       "message": "Access to requested resource is denied.",       "details": ""     }   ] }

Let Amazon Support know that you receive this error when attempting to connect your Amazon account to Sellbrite through the Selling Partner API. They'll be able to review your account permissions and resolve the authorization issue.
